SUSAN STARBIRD PROFILE
|
 |
Following a degree in fine
arts and a stint as a wolf psychologist, marketing consultant Susan Starbird began
her career in communications under the wing of The Chronicle's cummudgeonly former
editor, Scott Newhall (whose death in early 1993 ended a colorful, crusading era
in Califomia journalism). She quickly advanced from proofreader (1975) to managing
editor (1978-80) of the Newhalls' tiny but loud Santa Clarita Valley-based newspaper.
Making the leap from journalism to public relations and advertising,
she gained creative, public relations, and managerial experience in Silicon Valley
and San Francisco agencies, forming her own company in 1983. It presently provides
marketing consulting and project management services to a broad variety of business-to-business
and consumer accounts, including:
-High-tech manufacturers, health care and industrial applications
-Retail, hospitality, and entertainment accounts
-Health care accounts, including a two-hospital group, a 13-facility nursing home
group, a 175-facility division of a national HMO, a 250-physician IPA |
